Born in 1993, in Istanbul, Turkey, Tuba Elmas graduated from Koç University as a Business Administration major, Sex & Discrimination minor and Art & Innovation diploma. She studied Fashion Photography in Marangoni and continued her education in Uruguay. Following her graduation, she continued her practice in photography and started using the enduring qualities and the magic around typography and symbols. Elmas spent her
life with exploring art and design, reaching distances from Turkey, Italy, England, Mexico, Australia, United States and Uruguay. After her first photography exhibition at Bricklane Gallery, she began to blend neon light with her works. After holding her first neon solo exhibition at Soho House Istanbul in 2017, she worked on works in collaboration with many Soho Houses'. Elmas, as a resident artist at THE EDITION HOTEL Bodrum in 2021, she openned her solo exhibition 'LOST & FOUND' , where all the pieces constantly renews itself for 6 months, and also she gave workshops with neon during this period. In 2023, she had her solo exhibition ‘Elements of Sunset’ collaborated with Art With Me in Before Sunset Beach, Cesme. She invented a control pannel which connects music and neon lights by synchronizing with the BPM. Where she adjusted music and nature’s own
sounds and created a performance with audio. Also the exhibition was interactive where the guests were able to control the panel for writing their own compositions. All were directed to the sense of taste with the perceptions of seeing and hearing from the 5 senses, will go on a journey within themselves. Whichever element is missing ni their field, they wil be healed with color therapy accompanied by neons. Multidisciplinary artist Tuba Elmas uses the element of light alongside various kinds of mediums and make words have a voice, almost turning them into bold statements.
Through Elmas works, the viewer can question the power and magic ’ around words and symbols and how light can change the meaning behind typography and smybolism. She has her own codes and alpahabeth where she places secrets to be discovered.
