Semra Ecer is a Turkish artist born in 1959 in Ankara. Her artistic journey began at Mimar Sinan University of the Arts in Istanbul, where she graduated in 1983 with a Master's degree in Painting. During her studies, she had the privilege of studying under the renowned artist Özdemir Altan.
As a multidisciplinary artist, Semra focuses on sculpture while also exploring various artistic disciplines. She started her first studio at the age of 21, creating artworks using stained glass as her primary medium. She experimented with bronze, copper, and precious metals, exploring sculpture and figure-making in different scales and contexts. Her dedication to radical artistic education led her to further studies in Gravure Art at Doğuş University, adding traditional print-making to her artistic repertoire.
Over the decades, Semra has held numerous solo shows and participated in group exhibitions in Turkey and overseas. In addition to her own work, she has showcased other artists' works in her galleries in Istanbul and New York, contributing significantly to the international art community.
Semra continues to inspire both her peers and the next generation of artists with her innovative approach and unwavering commitment to her practice. Her legacy is one of creativity, passion, and profound artistic expression.
