Selçuk Yılmaz

The shaping characteristics, symbolic approaches, material usage relationships, and architectural construction methods of societies that lived in Anatolia form the structural foundations of my sculptures. I predominantly employ fluid, organic-geometric formations based on the balanced harmony of two different materials. In the figures of humans and animals that I conceive, I aim to evoke a dynamic, energetic, and emotionally charged expression beneath the stillness, using images that symbolize the relationship between the past and the future. Recently, I have been extensively using bird figures. Prior to that, I had various figurative sculpture interpretations, such as horses and fish. For me, the concepts evoked and associated with the artwork are prioritized over the object itself. My connection with nature, curiosity in understanding nature and humanity, encompasses concepts like freedom, enlightenment, speed, migration, as well as plants, mythological beings, animals, stones, the sky, and many other elements found in nature.
