İsmail Ateş

Ismail Ateş was born in Göle in 1960. He completed his undergraduate studies in the Painting Department at Gazi University, and his master's and doctoral studies at the Painting Department of Hacettepe University Faculty of Fine Arts. After completing his doctorate, he worked on American Art and Art Education at Hunter College, City University of New York, between 2002 and 2004. He held two solo exhibitions in New York between 2004 and 2012. He has conducted over 50 solo exhibitions in Turkey and exhibited his works in numerous juried and invited exhibitions, biennials, and art fairs both domestically and internationally. He has received 16 awards in the field of painting, including three first prizes in the Ministry of Culture Traditional State Painting and Sculpture Exhibitions and DYO Painting Competitions.
A biography book titled "Between East and West: Ismail Ateş" was published by Galeri Baraz Yayınları in 2016, with writing contributions from Jale Erzen, Yahşi Baraz, and Şinasi Tek.

Ismail Ateş's artworks can be found in various collections, including the Ankara Painting and Sculpture Museum, PTT Museum, Ziraat Bank collection, TPAO collection, Central Bank collection, Hacettepe Anatolian University collection, Hacettepe Central Library, Çırağan Palace collection, METU collection, Anadolu University collection, Hacettepe Art Museum, General Directorate of Youth and Sports, Culture University collection, Maltepe University collection, Hacettepe University Collection, Ministry of Culture collection, United Nations Turkish Center in New York, and many private collections in New York, Amsterdam, and Maastricht. Ateş continues to work as a professor at Hacettepe University Faculty of Fine Arts.
