İbrahim Örs

İbrahim Örs was born in 1946 in Tercan, a district of Erzincan. He entered the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts in 1965 and graduated in 1971. In 1971-1972, he conducted painting studies at Jorn Nash's Atelier in Dragebyget, Sweden. From 1972 to 1985, he served as a faculty member at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts. He was a student and assistant of Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu. In 1985, he went to Denmark as a visiting professor and eventually settled in Copenhagen, considering it as his second home.
In 1974, he won the first prize in a competition held for the Istanbul Sheraton Hotel with his 160-square-meter relief and Byzantine mosaic-style works. In 1988, he won the first prize in a competition organized by the Copenhagen Municipality with his 200-square-meter mural.
Örs continued his artistic career in his workshops in Denmark and Bodrum. On July 2022, he passed away in Copenhagen, Denmark, and was brought to Turkey. He was laid to rest on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, in Kıyıkışlacık Village in Milas, in a ceremony attended by his artist friends, his wife Boris Örs, and his daughter Aslı Örs.

Awards: 1973 - First Prize in the exhibition and competition organized by Istanbul International Industrial and Commercial Bank in honor of the establishment of the Republic of Turkey. 1974 - First Prize for the Byzantine mosaic-style works at the entrance gate and ballroom of Istanbul Sheraton Hotel. 1977 - Award at the Istanbul Archaeological Museums Open Air Exhibition. 1978 - Award at the Istanbul Visual Artists Association "May 1st" Competitive Exhibition. 1979 - Achievement Award at the Ankara State Painting and Sculpture Exhibition. 1979 - Grand Prize at the Istanbul May 3rd Exhibition. 1981 - DYO "100th Anniversary of Atatürk's Birth" Painting Competition Award. 1984 - Award at the Istanbul Contemporary Artists Exhibition. 1985 - Second Prize in the Enka Painting Competition. 1988 - Award from the mural paintings jury for the 200 m² mural he created for Copenhagen Municipality. 1988 - First Prize in the painting competition held in memory of Mimar Sinan.
