Deniz Doğruyol
This is a game. I am reading the world I question through my own memory, experiences, processes, and outcomes, as well as identity conflicts, within the framework of my utopia of living beyond cultural consciousness. As an artist, while navigating the chaotic cycle of the game of life, I derive my motivation to create from the impulse to make sense of our sole human needs: trust, meaning, and the pursuit of happiness. I draw inspiration from surprise, irony, and a sense of color. Despite being programmed by hierarchical systems to eradicate the concept of "self," I construct new game narratives that reject all norms in my conscious inner and outer worlds, and I allow for the creation process of my unconscious self.
Biography
Deniz Doğruyol was born in İzmir in 1977. He studied at Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Cinema, Television, and Photography between 1995 and 2002. In 2008, he established his first studio in Bebek, Istanbul. Deniz Doğruyol, known for his works created solely with paper and natural materials, has participated in numerous group exhibitions. In 2012, the artist moved to Los Angeles, where he received training in painting at Saddle Back Fine Arts. During his time in the United States, he focused on creating assemblage and collage works and established Dadaistudio in the garage of his home in 2013. During this period, his works were featured in several solo exhibitions in the United States and Europe. In 2014 and 2015, his works were exhibited at Art en Capital and Art Monaco. In 2015, he held his solo exhibition "Step in Time" in Los Angeles. In 2018, he returned to Istanbul, a city he is passionately connected to, and continues to create his works at Dadaistudio.
